Letters to a Friend.

Letters to a Friend gathers the correspondence John Muir wrote between 1866 and 1879 to Jeanne C. Carr, the wife of his former professor Ezra S. Carr and one of his earliest and most important friends. It was Mrs. Carr who recognized Muir’s genius, encouraged his writing, and introduced him to many of the leading figures of the day, and the letters, most of them written from Yosemite, offer an intimate view of his life in the mountains and of the ideas that would make him the most influential wilderness advocate in American history. John Muir, the Scottish-born naturalist known as the Father of the National Parks, was the founder and first president of the Sierra Club and a driving force behind the creation of Yosemite National Park.
