Rare anatomical heart signed by heart and cardiothoracic surgeon Denton Cooley
Rare life-sized anatomical human heart model signed by American heart and cardiothoracic surgeon Denton Cooley, the first surgeon to perform an implantation of a total artificial heart. The model is signed on a white plastic base, ""Denton A. Cooley M.D., 1-25-12." The entire piece measures 7 inches in height. Rare and desirable signed by Cooley.
American heart and cardiothoracic surgeon Denton Cooley gained international fame in 1970 when he performed the first implantation of an artificial heart in a human, when no heart replacement was immediately available. Cooley was also founder of The Texas Heart Institute, chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at clinical partner Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, and a clinical professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
