Original sketch of a human heart signed by American heart and cardiothoracic surgeon Denton Cooley. One page, the sketch is signed, "Denton A. Cooley, M.D." Accompanied by a black and white photograph of Cooley in the operating room, inscribed by him, "June 1994, To Scott MacEwen, with best wishes, Denton A. Cooley 1994." In fine condition.
American heart and cardiothoracic surgeon Denton Cooley famously performed the first implantation of a total artificial heart in a human when no heart replacement was immediately available in 1970. Cooley was also the founder and surgeon in-chief of The Texas Heart Institute, chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at clinical partner Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, consultant in Cardiovascular Surgery at Texas Children's Hospital and a clinical professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
