The von Trapp Family Singers were a renowned vocal ensemble composed of the Austrian von Trapp family, whose story later inspired the musical The Sound of Music. Led musically by Maria von Trapp, the group emigrated to the United States in 1938 following the Nazi annexation of Austria and soon gained popularity for their performances of liturgical music, folk songs, and classical repertoire. The Trapp-Family Book of Christmas Songs, selected and arranged by Franz Wasner, offers a collection of traditional carols and sacred music that reflects the musical heritage and devotional spirit of the Trapp Family Singers. Compiled by the family’s musical director, Father Wasner, the volume includes both European and American selections, with arrangements designed for vocal harmony in the style for which the group was internationally known.
