Igor Sikorsky's The Story of the Winged-S; inscribed by him
First edition, later printing of the autobiography of the Russian-American aviation pioneer and designer of the first viable American helicopter. Octavo, original pictorial cloth, frontispiece, illustrated with black and white photographs many from the author's collection. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Dave Postle, With kindest personal regards of I. Sikorsky, Dec. 23, 1953." Very good in a very good dust jacket.
Russian–American aviation pioneer Igor Sikorsky's first success came with the S-2, the second aircraft of his design and construction. His fifth airplane, the S-5, won him national recognition as well as F.A.I. license number 64. In 1939, Sikorsky designed and flew the Vought-Sikorsky VS-300, the first viable American helicopter, which pioneered the rotor configuration used by most helicopters today. He was inducted into the International Air & Space Hall of Fame in 1966.
