Joseph Emin (1726–1809) was an Armenian nationalist thinker and adventurer who played a notable role in early efforts to promote Armenian political autonomy in the eighteenth century. Born in Persia and later educated in Britain, Emin sought European support for the liberation of Armenia from Ottoman and Persian control, combining Enlightenment political ideas with a developing sense of national identity. His memoir, The Life and Adventures of Joseph Emin, provides a rare autobiographical account of Armenian political aspirations during this period and remains an important source for understanding early modern Armenian diasporic activism and transnational diplomacy.
