Peter Bradford Benchley was an American author, screenwriter, and environmental activist best known for his best-selling thriller 'Jaws' and its accompanying screen adaptation. Later in life, Benchley expressed some regret for his writing about sharks, which he felt indulged already present fear and false belief about sharks, and he began writing nonfiction to advocate for their conservation.
