First Edition of The Broom of the System; Signed by David Foster Wallace, and Dust Jacket Illustrator Lon Kirschner
First edition of the author's classic first book. Octavo, bound in full morocco by the Harcourt Bindery with gilt titles to the spine in five compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling and author's initials to the front panel, gilt inner dentelles stamp-signed by the Harcourt Bindery, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Boldly signed by David Foster Wallace on the title page. Additionally signed by the book's original dust jacket illustrator Lon Kirschner with an original drawing of his jacket illustration on the title page. Founded over a century ago in 1900, the Harcourt Bindery is the oldest and largest traditional bindery in America exclusively devoted to fine traditional leather bookbinding by hand. Harcourt Bindery uses 22 karat genuine gold leaf, top grades of Nigerian moroccos, and hand marbled papers from craftsmen representing seven countries. In fine condition. An exceptional presentation, rare and desirable signed.
Published when the author was just twenty-four years old, The Broom of the System stunned critics and marked the emergence of an extraordinary new talent. "Daring, hilarious... a zany picaresque adventure of contemporary America run amok" (The New York Times).
