The Book of Catherine Wells (1928) is a posthumous collection of short stories, poems, and sketches by Amy Catherine Wells (“Jane”), published by H. G. Wells as a tribute following her death in 1927. The volume gathers intimate and often wistful works—including stories such as “The Last Fairy,” “The Dragon-Fly,” and “The Emerald,” along with poems like “Spring 1915”—that explore themes of domestic life, personal longing, wartime reflection, and the interior emotional worlds of women. Several pieces incorporate subtle elements of the fantastic or the eerie, revealing a sensitivity to psychological nuance and quiet tension. Accompanied by a moving introductory memoir by H. G. Wells.
