At the center of the film is a pairing of two of the most electrifying screen actors of their generation: Gary Oldman — who would later win the Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour (2018) — plays Rosencrantz with a quality of baffled, good-natured bewilderment perfectly suited to Stoppard's tragicomic design, opposite Tim Roth's more anxiously philosophical Guildenstern, with Richard Dreyfuss rounding out the principal cast as the grandiloquent Player. Oldman received a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead for his performance. The film won the Golden Lion at the 47th Venice International Film Festival — the highest prize in one of the world's most prestigious film competitions. In very good condition.
