Plant Hunting by Ernest H. Wilson is an autobiographical account of his extensive botanical expeditions between 1899 and 1930, documenting his work as one of the most important plant collectors of the early twentieth century. Writing from his experience with Veitch Nurseries and later as Keeper of the Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University, Wilson recounts hazardous journeys through western China and East Asia in search of new species, including the celebrated Regal Lily (Lilium regale) and the rare Dove Tree (Davidia involucrata), whose successful introduction to Western cultivation marked a major botanical achievement. Over the course of his career, he brought back thousands of specimens—many of which now bear his name—significantly enriching European and American horticulture with new shrubs, conifers, and rhododendrons.
