Scarce original Pictorial Directory of the 81st Congress, which met in Washington, D.C. from January 3, 1949 to January 3, 1951, during the presidency of Harry S. Truman. The directory runs to 80 pages, featuring a portrait of the young Massachusetts congressman John F. Kennedy on the front cover. Kennedy is pictured again on page 31 as the representative of Massachusetts's eleventh district. Also pictured are the sitting President, Harry S. Truman, along with three men who would themselves become President, Senator Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas, Representative Richard Nixon of California, and Representative Gerald Ford of Michigan. With Kennedy on the cover, the directory brings together five men who would hold the office of President of the United States. In good condition with scattered light toning and losses to the detached front cover. The piece measures 8.5 inches by 11.5 inches.

John F. Kennedy was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1946, at the age of 29, representing the eleventh district of Massachusetts. He served three terms in the House before winning a Senate seat in 1952, and this pictorial directory dates from his second term, in the 81st Congress. A decorated PT boat commander in the Pacific during the Second World War, Kennedy went on to win the presidency in 1960 and served as the thirty-fifth President of the United States until his assassination in 1963. He remains the youngest man ever elected to the office and the only Roman Catholic to have held it.
