Peter, Paul and Mary (1962), the debut album of the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, was a landmark release in the American folk revival, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and remaining on the charts for an exceptional duration, ultimately achieving multi-platinum sales. The album features several of the group’s most enduring songs, including “If I Had a Hammer,” “Lemon Tree,” and “500 Miles,” which combined traditional folk influences with polished vocal harmonies that appealed to a broad audience. Its commercial success helped bring folk music into the mainstream and established the trio as leading voices of socially conscious music in the early 1960s.
