Color close-up photograph of Nobel Prize-Winning physicist Peter Higgs, who discovered The Higgs mechanism which predicted the existence of a new particle, the Higgs boson, the detection of which became one of the great goals of physics. Boldly signed by Peter Higgs. In fine condition. The piece measures 5.75 inches by 4 inches.
Peter W. Higgs was a British theoretical physicist best known for proposing the existence of the Higgs boson, a fundamental particle associated with the mechanism that gives mass to other elementary particles. In 1964 Higgs and several other physicists independently developed the theoretical framework—now known as the Higgs mechanism—within the Standard Model of particle physics. This theory was experimentally confirmed in 2012 with the discovery of the Higgs boson at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, a milestone in modern physics. For this achievement Higgs was awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics, shared with Belgian physicist François Englert, recognizing their theoretical contributions to understanding the fundamental structure of matter.
