Illustrations of Smollett, Fielding and Goldsmith, in a Series of Forty-One Plates, Designed and Engraved by George Cruikshank is a collection of engraved illustrations produced by the renowned nineteenth-century caricaturist and book illustrator George Cruikshank. The plates depict memorable scenes and characters drawn from the works of three major eighteenth-century English novelists—Tobias Smollett, Henry Fielding, and Oliver Goldsmith—whose satirical and picaresque narratives helped shape the early development of the English novel. Through lively composition and expressive character portrayal, Cruikshank interprets episodes from works such as Roderick Random, Tom Jones, and The Vicar of Wakefield, translating their humor and social commentary into visual form.
