Rare Collection of Photographs and a Typed Letter Signed by Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan
A pair of original photographs of Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan. The first photograph is of Kagan being sworn in and is signed by her in blue felt tip. The second is of Kagan signing documents and is inscribed by her, "All best wishes Elena Kagan." Accompanied by a typed letter signed by her on Supreme Court of the United States letterhead and dated November 12, 2010. The letter reads in full, "Dear Mr. Salker: Thank you for your good wishes on my appointment to the Supreme Court. I am happy to enclose your autographed photos. Best wishes, and thanks again for your kind words. Sincerely, Elena Kagan." Each are in fine condition. The photographs measure 8 inches by 10 inches.
Elena Kagan (b. 1960) is an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court, appointed in 2010 by President Barack Obama. Prior to joining the Court, she served as Solicitor General of the United States, becoming the first woman to hold that position, and earlier as Dean of Harvard Law School, where she played a significant role in shaping legal education and faculty development. Kagan is known for her careful, pragmatic approach to statutory interpretation and her emphasis on institutional reasoning, often focusing on the practical implications of legal decisions.
