Crusade in Europe, published in 1948, is Dwight D. Eisenhower’s account of the Allied war effort in Europe, from the North African landings through D-Day to the final defeat of Nazi Germany, written by the Supreme Commander who directed it. Praised for its clarity and generosity, it became an immediate bestseller and is regarded as one of the finest military memoirs ever written. Eisenhower (1890-1969) would be elected the thirty-fourth President of the United States four years later, and the royalties from the book helped make him financially independent as he entered public life.
