First edition of this scarce Army Industrial College lecture by the future Supreme Allied Commander and President. Quarto, original half-cloth over marbled boards. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the title page, "For I.P. Phillipson with best wishes Dwight D Eisenhower." The recipient, I. P. Phillipson, was a fellow United States Army officer and a contributor to the same volume, in which his essay on the Army budget process appears alongside Eisenhower's history and an article by Bernard Baruch, who had directed American industrial mobilization during the First World War. In very good condition with light rubbing and chipping to the extremities, and light toning. Ownership signature to the front free endpaper and along the top of the title page. Dwight Eisenhower was an Army general who served as the 34th President of the United States from 1953 until 1961. He was a five-star general in the United States Army during World War II and served as Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Forces in Europe. He was responsible for planning and supervising the invasion of North Africa in Operation Torch in 1942–43 and the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944–45 from the Western Front. In 1951, he became the first Supreme Commander of NATO.
