Anna and the King of Siam is a 1944 semi-fictionalized novel by Margaret Landon, based on the memoirs of Anna Leonowens, a British governess hired by King Mongkut of Siam (Thailand) in the 1860s to teach his children and wives English and Western customs. The book details her experiences navigating the foreign culture, her complex relationship with the King, and her influence on his son, Prince Chulalongkorn, who later became a reformer. The novel inspired the famous musical and film The King and I, as well as other adaptations.
