Selected, introduced, and annotated by the scholar Arthur Mizener, whose 1951 biography The Far Side of Paradise had revived Fitzgerald's reputation, the collection includes autobiographical essays and late Pat Hobby material that illuminate the writer's craft and his years of struggle. F. Scott Fitzgerald, the chronicler of the Jazz Age and author of The Great Gatsby, Tender Is the Night, and This Side of Paradise, died believing himself a failure, and collections such as this contributed to the posthumous revival that secured his place among the greatest American writers.
