First edition, advance review copy of John Maynard Keynes' A Tract on Monetary Reform
First edition, advance review copy of Keynes’ breakthrough work in the field of economics, blind-stamped 'Presentation copy' on the title page. Octavo, original blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine. Laid in is an autograph letter stamped 'British Trade Review 31 Dec 1923' which reads in part, "Dear Chris: Please let us have 300 or 400 words review of Keynes book sent herein... Very urgent. Sorry for the short notice. I thinks it will be ok for you to hold on to it for a week or two if you want to read it afterwards! Best wishes for the new year from us both... I understand Keynes rather slates the gold standard. Don't forget where we stand on this question." Ownership name to the front free endpaper. In very good condition.
"To those who wish to seek early indications of the theories that were later to appear in the General Theory, the Tract is the most rewarding source. In it will be found, above all, the clearest possible demonstration of Keyness abiding interest in the objective of stabilizing the level of business activity" (Roll, A History of Economic Thought).
