First edition of the seventh novel in Ian Fleming's James Bond series. Octavo, original black cloth. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To Una, who again wrote the whole thing! from Ian Fleming." The recipient, Una Trueblood, whose surname was later appropriated by Fleming for the character of Mary Trueblood in Dr. No. Una started working in 1948 at Kemsley Newspapers and The Sunday Times where she was soon appointed secretary to Ian Fleming, where he worked throughout the 1950s. She recalled that Fleming "always said he only wrote Casino Royale, the first Bond book, because he was on the plane to Jamaica and he read such a bad, boring thriller that he thought he could do better himself." He would write the Bond novels during his annual stays at Goldeneye, his home in Jamaica, thereafter sending the manuscript to Una for typing up. The character in Dr. No named after Una is Mary Trueblood, secretary to John Strangways, the head of the British Secret Service's Caribbean station, a position echoing that of Una to Fleming. Mary however met a gruesome end, stabbed to death. First edition of the second James Bond novel, Octavo, bound by in full morocco by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, raised bands, inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, inscribed to two-time Oscar winner Leslie Bricusse by Roger Moore and the director, Guy Hamilton. Association copy, inscribed on the verso of the half-title "Happy memories. Guy Hamilton" and on the title page, "Dear Leslie - Happy Memories of my 1st! Roger Moore." Leslie Bricusse has neatly written in black ink and underlined in red ink "Guy Hamilton (Director)" and "Roger Moore 007." The 1973 film Live and Let Die is a spy thriller and the eighth film in the James Bond series produced by Eon Productions. It marked the debut of Roger Moore as the MI6 agent James Bond. Directed by Guy Hamilton and produced by Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, the film's script was written by Tom Mankiewicz. Although the producers approached Sean Connery to return after Diamonds Are Forever, he declined, leading to a search for a new Bond lead, which resulted in Moore being cast. Sir Roger Moore was an English actor renowned for his role as the fictional secret agent James Bond.
