First edition of the author's first book, which had an initial print run of only 1300 copies. Octavo, original half cloth. Boldly signed by David Foster Wallace on the front free endpaper and with an original illustration by the illustrator Lon Kirschner. Additionally signed by dust jacket illustrator Lon Kirschner three times: on the title page with his initials and an original drawing reminiscent of his jacket illustration, on the front panel of the dust jacket, and on the rear flap of the dust jacket. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Lon Kirschner. Unique.

Octavo, bound in full morocco by the Harcourt Bindery with gilt titles to the spine in five compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling and author's initials to the front panel, gilt inner dentelles stamp-signed by the Harcourt Bindery, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. Boldly signed by David Foster Wallace on the title page. Additionally signed by the book's original dust jacket illustrator Lon Kirschner with an original drawing of his jacket illustration on the title page. Founded over a century ago in 1900, the Harcourt Bindery is the oldest and largest traditional bindery in America exclusively devoted to fine traditional leather bookbinding by hand. Harcourt Bindery uses 22 karat genuine gold leaf, top grades of Nigerian moroccos, and hand marbled papers from craftsmen representing seven countries. In fine condition. Uncorrected proof of the first edition of the author's magnum opus. Thick octavo, original wrappers. Boldly signed by David Foster Wallace with his added smiley face on the front free endpaper and three times by jacket designer Steve Snider: on the front panel, the front free endpaper beneath Wallace, and on the rear panel. Steve Snider, a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and a designer whose fifty-year career encompassed the art directorships of The Atlantic, Little, Brown and Company, and St. Martin's Press, produced one of the most recognizable typographic jacket designs in the history of American publishing when he created the cover for David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest. Reasoning that the novel at over 1,000 pages and two and three-eighths inches thick required a jacket that announced its importance with grand and approachable typography rather than specific imagery, Snider focused on the word "infinite" and deployed what he and editor Michael Pietsch described as "the Big Book look," presenting a single design that Pietsch approved immediately and that the sales force loved without reservation.
