Association copy, inscribed by the author to fellow writer Wayne Warga on the half-title page, "To Wayne - smooth sailing on still waters - Darryl Ponicsan." From the library of the journalist and novelist Wayne Warga, who became the youngest editor at Life Magazine at the age of twenty-five, reported on John F. Kennedy's run for the presidency, and covered the Civil Rights movement for the magazine, before spending many years as a leading writer at the Los Angeles Times. Warga later turned to fiction, writing three well-received bibliomysteries, Hardcover, Fatal Impressions, and Singapore Transfer, featuring the Los Angeles rare book dealer Jeffrey Dean.
