First edition of the Nobel Prize-winning author’s fifth novel and what many consider to be his finest. Octavo, original blue boards. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Signed by the author on the title page. Dust jacket art by famed Australian artist Sydney Nolan.

Voss is based on the life of the nineteenth-century Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt who disappeared whilst on an expedition into the Australian outback. Symbolism is heavily used in Voss, and is primarily religious. Voss is often compared to Christ. Voss visits the desert, leads men, and cures the sick. He also meets with the character Laura in garden which is comparable to the Garden of Eden.
