First Edition of W.D. Gann's Truth of the Stock Tape; Lengthily Inscribed by Him to His Sister
First edition of the legendary market theorist W. D. Gann’s first book. Octavo, original purple cloth lettered in gilt, frontispiece portrait of the author, and illustrated with graphs. Association copy, lengthily inscribed by the author in the year of publication on the front free endpaper, “To my dear Sister Edna Gann Dunn with all good wishes for a merry Christmas - Dec 25th 1923. W. D. Gann." From the library of his sister, Edna Gann Dunn. In good condition with rubbing and soiling, fraying to the spine ends, and chipping to the front free endpaper. A remarkable family association copy of a cornerstone of technical market analysis, signed and inscribed by its famously private author.
William Delbert Gann was among the most famous and enigmatic figures in the history of financial markets, a trader and forecaster whose techniques, the Gann angles, the square of nine, and his theories relating price, time, and geometry, have attracted a devoted following among technical analysts to this day. Truth of the Stock Tape was his first full-length book, a study of the stock and commodity markets offering charts and rules for successful trading and investing, and it set out the disciplined, rule-based reading of the ticker tape that would help make Gann a legend. His later works, among them Tunnel Thru the Air and 45 Years in Wall Street, have become cult classics, and Gann’s writings remain in print and intensely studied nearly a century after his death.
