Rare original recording of Truman Capote reciting A Christmas Memory. Presentation copy, inscribed by Truman Capote on the front panel to close personal friend Herb Caen, “for Herb, with love from Truman 1959.” The recipient, Herbert Eugene Caen, was a San Francisco humorist and journalist whose daily column of local goings-on and insider gossip, social and political happenings, painful puns, and offbeat anecdotes appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle for almost sixty years. In very good condition.

Capote's autobiographical tale of a boyhood Christmas season in rural Alabama first appeared in Mademoiselle in 1956 and was one of three short stories published with the novella Breakfast at Tiffany's in 1958. In slipcase with photographic label of a young Capote and his beloved cousin Sook Faulk.
