First edition of Price's penetrating coming of age novel. Octavo, original cloth. Inscribed by the author on the title page, "To Bob, Richard Price." Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket design by Batten & Kreloff. Author photograph by Barry Schreibman.
The Wanderers is the urban war song of a teenage gang living in a Bronx housing project in the early 1960s. Written when Prince was only 25, the novel reveals a passionate and penetrating insight into urban love and terror. "Not since Last Exit to Brooklyn has dialogue been so accurately reproduced in artistic format. A deeply moving account of confused and spiritually underprivileged youth" (William S. Burroughs). It is the basis for the 1979 film by Philip Kaufman.
