Handsome large-folio facsimile of the celebrated illustrated Venice Haggadah, one of the most famous of all printed Passover Haggadot, reproducing its striking sixteenth-century woodcuts of the seder and the story of the Exodus. Folio, bound in decorative linen boards with a color reproduction of an illuminated Haggadah panel mounted to the front cover. Text in Hebrew with an English translation, printed photolithographically on toned paper in imitation of the original. A faithful reproduction of an old Venetian edition printed at the Stamperia Vendramina, the original Italian translation here replaced by English. In very good condition, inscription to the front free endpaper.

The Haggadah is the text recited at the Passover seder, retelling the story of the Israelites' liberation from slavery in Egypt in fulfillment of the biblical command to tell one's children of the Exodus. The Venice Haggadah, first printed in the sixteenth century at the celebrated Hebrew presses of Venice, was among the most influential of all illustrated printed Haggadot, its vigorous woodcuts depicting the stages of the seder, the baking of the matzah, and scenes from the Exodus, and it served as a model for Haggadah illustration for centuries afterward.
