First edition. Original blue cloth. In near fine condition. Inscribed by the author, “For Snowden A. Fahnestock with best regards of R.E. Perry” There are 4 more words below in Peary’s hand which is indecipherable. A very sharp copy.

Robert E. Peary was a contributing explorer of the North Pole. He was honored by the American Geographical Society and Royal Geographical Society of London for his tenacious efforts in mapping previously uncharted areas and his discovery in 1900 of Cape Jesup at the north tip of Greenland. Peary also achieved a farthest north for the western hemisphere in 1902 north of Canada's Ellesmere Island. The North Pole, published in 1910 by Cook, is one of two of his most appreciate accounts of his travels. Indeed, the film Glory & Honor (1998) dramatizes Peary's courageous 1909 journey to the area of the pole.
