Octavo, two volumes bound in full morocco with gilt titles and tooling to the spine, elaborate gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, tissue-guarded frontispiece to each volume. In near fine condition. Ownership inscriptions.

A lineal descendant in the fifth generation of the "Indian Apostle" John Eliot, Charles Wyllys Elliott was a prolific writer, publishing several important histories including "St. Domingo, its Revolution and its Hero, Toussaint l'Ouverture" (1855), "The New England History, from the Discovery of the Continent by the Northmen, A. D. 986, to 1776" (1857), and "Remarkable Characters and Places in the Holy Land" (1867) among many others.
