Albert Smith was a prominent Victorian humorist, writer, and entertainer best known for his satirical sketches and popular lectures that captured the spirit of mid-19th-century urban life. His work, including The Natural History series and the highly successful stage show The Ascent of Mont Blanc, blended observational humor with theatrical flair, reflecting both the rise of mass entertainment and the shifting tastes of a growing middle-class audience. Smith’s ability to merge literary wit with performance positioned him as a key figure in the development of Victorian popular culture.
