First edition of Rice's comprehensive analysis of Yeats' body of work. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated with 8 plates including frontispiece. From the library of British feminist journalist Katharine Whitehorn with her ownership signature to the front free endpaper. Whitehorn worked as a columnist for The Observer in London from 1960 until 1996 and created a sensation in 1963 with an article about 'slovenly women', with which she proudly identified. She later served as the Rector of the University of St Andrews from 1982 to 1985, the first woman rector of a Scottish University. In fine condition.
One of the foremost figures of 20th-century literature, William Butler Years was a pillar of the Irish literary establishment and a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival. Yeats' earliest volume of verse was published in 1889 and, in 1923, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
