First editions in the original wrappers of the first four issues of The Land of Sunshine Magazine; containing the first appearances of the first short stories published by an Asian-American author. Octavos, four volumes, original illustrated wrappers as issued. In fine condition.

The daughter of a British merchant and a Chinese woman, Edith Eaton was born in England and later moved to San Francisco where she began writing short stories under the pseudonym Sui Seen Far. Eaton's stories first appeared in the present four serial volumes, making her the first Asian-American author published in the United States. Fourteen years later, Eaton published her singular book Mrs. Spring Fragrance, an anthology of her collected stories, credited by literary historians as being the first book of Chinese-American fiction.
