First edition of Doyle’s Napoleonic era action-adventure novel. Small octavo, original illustrated wrappers as issued, publisher’s advertisements. In very good condition. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell and chemise case.

Conan Doyle, who is best known for his novels detailing the life of Victorian detective Sherlock Holmes, also published numerous short stories, nonfiction works, historical novels, short stories, poems and one operetta. Featuring the adventurous Jack Colder, The Great Shadow takes place in the Napoleonic era on the English–Scottish border city called West Inch. The novel describes in vivid detail one soldier’s account of the Battle of Waterloo and the defeat of the French by the Duke of Wellington and Gebhard von Blucher.
