The Caretaker became Pinter's first significant commercial success (Galens, 2000). Its first production opened in 1960 at the Arts Theatre, London, starring Alan Bates and later on Broadway in New York City. The play has been professionally produced since publication up the present over fourteen times, casting famous actors which include Colin Firth, Patrick Stewart, and Kyle MacLachlan. The productions received generally strong reviews (Worsley, 1960). The Dumb Waiter premiered in London in 1960 alongside Pinter's first play, The Room and was transferred to London's Royal Court Theater soon after. Later revivals in 2004 and 2007 starred Toby Jones and Jason Isaacs.
