H.G. Wells was a pioneering British writer and social thinker whose work helped define the genre of modern science fiction while engaging critically with the political and technological transformations of his time. 'The Autocracy of Mr. Parham' is a satirical novel that explores the dangers of authoritarianism through the story of a conservative academic whose fantasies of power lead him into a dreamlike dictatorship, revealing the seductive and destructive nature of political absolutism. It proved to be "one of Wells's better sellers in years", after a number of years of poor sales.
