Thank You for Smoking is the best-known novel of the political satirist Christopher Buckley. Its antihero, Nick Naylor, is the smooth-talking chief spokesman for the tobacco industry, whose job is to defend cigarettes against all comers, a role that lands him in a series of comic and increasingly dangerous scrapes. A sharp satire of Washington spin, lobbying, and the machinery of public relations, the novel became a modern comic classic and was adapted into the acclaimed 2005 film directed by Jason Reitman and starring Aaron Eckhart. Christopher Buckley, the son of William F. Buckley Jr. and a former speechwriter for Vice President George H.W. Bush, is among the most celebrated political humorists of his generation.
