Early printing of Michener's classic novel specially bound in full leather for the library of Howard Kaminsky. Octavo, presentation binding, cartographic endpapers, gilt titles and tooling to the spine, gilt star motif and 'Howard Kaminsky' to the front panel, all edges gilt, ribbon bound in, cartography by Jean Paul Tremblay. From the library of Howard Kaminsky, the former president and publisher of Warner Books, Random House and William Morrow/Avon. Kaminsky developed his reputation by publishing best-sellers by Richard Simmons, Norman Mailer, Gore Vidal, and Elmore Leonard. Perhaps his best-known deal was signing Richard Nixon to an estimated 2.5 million dollar contract to write his memoirs only six weeks after his resignation in 1974. In fine condition with noted provenance.
Based on the history of the Lone Star State, Michener's Texas includes a variety of both fictional and non-fictional characters spanning hundreds of years from Spanish colonists to oil men and ranchers. The longest Michener novel published by Random House, the novel required extensive research by the author which he completed with the financial aid of the state government and access to the archives of the University of Texas at Austin.
