Signed limited large paper edition of Charles and Mary Lamb's Tales From Shakespeare with illustrations by Arthur Rackham. Quarto, bound in full morocco with morocco spine labels lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt with others uncut, 12 tipped-in color plates by Rackham including frontispiece and the additional "Puck" plate facing page 16 which only appears in this edition. One of 750 copies produced and signed by Arthur Rackham, this is number 424. In near fine condition. A very nice example.
Produced with the intention of providing an introduction to the great playwright's works for children, Mary and Charles Lamb's Tales of Shakespeare contains twenty of Shakespeare's best known comedies and tragedies presented in narrative form for the young reader. Rackham's elaborate tipped-in color illustrations include the "Puck" plate not included in the trade edition, "Perdita", "Cordella", and "At the Cell of Friar Lawrence."
