John Muir (1838–1914) was a Scottish-born American naturalist, writer, and conservationist whose work profoundly shaped modern environmental thought and the American conservation movement. His advocacy was instrumental in the establishment of several U.S. national parks, including Yosemite and Sequoia, and in the founding of the Sierra Club in 1892, which became a central force in American environmental activism.
