Sleeping Beauties (2017) is the first novel co-written by Stephen King and his younger son, the novelist Owen King. Set in the near future, it imagines a world in which the women of Earth, when they fall asleep, become wrapped in gauzy cocoons, and any attempt to wake them unleashes savage violence, leaving the men to reckon with a world suddenly without women. Sweeping and ambitious, blending horror, fantasy, and social allegory, it became an immediate bestseller and was praised as a distinctive addition to King’s vast body of work. The book was a family affair for one of the most famous literary families in America, and the two authors toured together on its publication.
