"The American people have given us the 'go-ahead' to complete our agenda": Typed Letter Signed by President Ronald Reagan to Actor Mickey Rooney
Typed letter signed by Ronald Reagan as President of the United States, written to the actor Mickey Rooney and his wife Jan shortly after Reagan's landslide reelection in November 1984. One page on White House stationery, dated December 6, 1984, and signed "Ron." The letter reads in full, "Dear Jan and Mickey: Thanks for your message and most of all for your support and friendship. I cherish the victory and the confidence and trust it represents. The American people have given us the 'go-ahead' to complete our agenda and I look forward to the next four years with great anticipation. Nancy joins me in sending our appreciation and warm regards. Sincerely, Ron." The recipient, Mickey Rooney, was one of the most enduring stars in the history of American film, a child actor who became the top box-office draw of the late 1930s and went on to a career of more than nine decades. Reagan, himself a Hollywood actor before he entered politics, writes warmly to his fellow star Mickey Rooney, signing with the familiar "Ron" he reserved for friends. In fine condition. The letter measures approximately 5.25 inches by 7 inches.
Ronald Wilson Reagan served as the 40th president of the United States from 1981 to 1989 and became a highly influential voice of modern conservatism. Prior to his presidency, he was a Hollywood actor and union leader before serving as the 33rd governor of California from 1967 to 1975. When Reagan left office in 1989, he held an approval rating of 68%, matching those of Franklin D. Roosevelt, and later Bill Clinton, as the highest ratings for departing presidents in the modern era. He was the first president since Dwight D. Eisenhower to serve two full terms after the five prior presidents did not. Evaluations of his presidency among historians and the general public place him among the upper tier of American presidents.
