First edition of the definitive biography of Winfield Scott Hancock. Octavo, original cloth decorated in gilt, patterned endpapers, tissue-guarded frontispiece portrait of Hancock. In very good condition. Uncommon in this condition.
Winfield Scott Hancock was an army officer, serving with distinction during the Mexican-American War and as a union general during the Battle of Gettysburg. He was nominated for President of the United States in 1880 by the democrats, but lost to Republican James A. Garfield.
