Ida Bailey Allen was one of the most famous cooking personalities in America, a home economist and author known as “The Nation’s Homemaker” who reached millions of listeners through her pioneering radio programs of the 1920s and 1930s and later appeared on television. The founder of the National Radio Home-Makers Club and the author of dozens of cookbooks, she was among the first to build a mass-media career around cookery, a forerunner of the celebrity chefs of later generations.
