First edition of Collins’ first collection of poetry. Oblong octavo, original wrappers. One of 400 numbered copies, signed by Billy Collins, this is number 72. Laid in is a letter to Collins from poetry student dated June 22, 2005 politely requesting a copy of Collins’ Video Poems, to which Collins replied on the same sheet, completely in his hand: “Thanks for your interest in my poems, but Video Poems would only disappoint you. I consider it “late juvenilia,” and it being long out of print and nearly impossible to locate (I have only copy myself) is the best thing about it. Regards, Billy Collins.” A revealing letter from Collins regarding his disdain for his early work. In fine condition.
