First edition of this beautifully produced artograph of the Palm Beaches and their most iconic landmarks. Quarto, original wrappers with gilt titles to the front panel, watercolor inlay of downtown West Palm Beach to the front panel, illustrated title page with tissue guard, copiously illustrated by E. J. Geske. In near fine condition. A lovely piece of Palm Beach history.
Published at the height of the Florida land boom, this lavishly illustrated art booklet offers a detailed survey of North, South, West, and Palm Beach at a singular moment in the region's history. Each page pairs an elaborate illustration by Geske with descriptive text covering the most celebrated buildings, estates, beaches, and neighborhoods of the Palm Beaches. Among the subjects depicted are Worth Avenue and Via Mizner, the Breakers Casino and beach, the Alba Hotel, the Everglades Club, Clematis Street, and Woodlawn Cemetery. Issued in 1926, the year The Breakers reopened in its current Italian Renaissance form and the land boom reached its peak, this volume captures the Palm Beaches at the precise moment of their transformation from Gilded Age resort enclave into one of the most celebrated addresses in America.
