First Edition of Odette D'Antrevernes and A Study in Temperament; Inscribed by Firbank to Fellow Novelist Forrest Reid
First edition of Firbank's first book, one of 55 copies. Octavo, original wrappers. Association copy, inscribed by the author to Forrest Reid, "To the author of The 'Garden God' in admiration Arthur Firbank 06." The Garden God was Reid's first book with an openly homoerotic theme, and although Odette has no apparent gay focus, Firbank would soon turn to such subject matter and it's quite possible that Reid's book served as a source of inspiration. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. Rare and desirable signed.
Arthur Annesley Ronald Firbank work partly inspired by the London aesthetes of the 1890s, especially Oscar Wilde, consist largely of dialogue, with references to religion, social-climbing, and sexuality.
