First edition of this collection of bird-hunting and fishing sketches by the renowned American sporting writer. Octavo, original boards decorated in gilt with central illustrated onlay, illustrated. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “A pleasure and privilege to inscribe this to Mrs. R. Richens – from Nash Buckingham.” One of twelve hundred and fifty numbered copies, this is number 239. In near fine condition. Bookplate. First editions are uncommon signed.

Considered one of the most widely renowned and best-loved outdoor writers of his time, American author and conservationist Nash Buckingham wrote nine books and hundreds of articles that regularly appeared in such magazines as Outdoor Life and Field & Stream. An avid shotgunner and wing shot, he was considered an authority on all topics relating to waterfowl and upland birds, as well as the methods and tools used to hunt them.
