First Edition of the Rev. W. Awdry's Main Line Engines
First edition of this work in the Rev. W. Awdry’s beloved Railway Series, the source of Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends. Oblong octodecimo, original blue cloth lettered and pictorially stamped in silver, illustrated throughout in color by Peter and Gunvor Edwards. Fine in a near fine dust jacket.
Main Line Engines (1966) is the twenty-first title in the Railway Series, the enormously popular sequence of children’s books by the Rev. Wilbert Awdry (1911-1997) set on the imaginary Island of Sodor. Begun in 1945 with The Three Railway Engines, the series introduced Thomas the Tank Engine and a cast of anthropomorphic locomotives whose adventures under the watchful eye of the Fat Controller have delighted generations of readers and, through the television series Thomas & Friends, become a global phenomenon.
